ABOUT THIS PROJECT

MWM Consulting guided Blue Run Spirits' $51M distillery expansion in Georgetown, Kentucky, creating 45 jobs and enriching the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

BLUE RUN DISTILLERY

Blue Run Spirits, a bourbon company launched in 2020, has quickly gained popularity in the spirits market. The company's signature metallic butterfly gracing its bourbon bottles and its 13 unique bourbon and rye whiskey releases have made it a sought-after brand, reflected by a 300% increase in sales in just two years. To continue their growth and establish a unique presence, they envisioned a new distillery - named "Meander," symbolizing the journey of water through the bourbon-making process. An architectural marvel designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, the distillery aims to be a touchpoint on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, featuring a 35,000-square-foot distillery and a 20,000-square-foot rickhouse.

THE CHALLENGE

Despite the ambitious vision, finding the perfect home for Blue Run Spirits in Central Kentucky presented significant challenges. The company needed a suitable location that could accommodate their expansive distillery and rickhouse requirements. However, options were limited across Central KY, which was the desired location. Adding in specific requirements around electric, water, and sewer availability added layers of complexity. The challenge was not just to find a site but to find the right one that could fulfill all Blue Run Spirits' needs and help them create the new touchpoint on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail they envisioned.

THE SOLUTION

Enter MWM, which played a key role in overcoming these challenges. MWM assisted in the navigation of developing a strategic partnership with the local community for Blue Run Spirits which led to a site selection decision in Georgetown, KY. MWM also guided the company through tax incentive negotiations, lending their expertise to ensure the project's financial viability. Through this collaborative effort including the community, Blue Run Spirits, the state of KY, and MWM, a creative deal was generated which will ultimately produce a first class facility.

THE OUTCOME

The result of these combined efforts is the ongoing construction of an innovative distillery that's set to enhance the bourbon landscape of Georgetown, Kentucky. Named "Meander," the distillery resonates with the journey of the limestone-rich water as it weaves through the distilling, aging, and blending process to become bourbon and rye whiskey. The project, which is expected to be completed by 2025, represents a $51 million capital investment and will create at least 45 full-time jobs, significantly contributing to the local economy. More than just a new facility, it's a testament to Blue Run Spirits' growth and their dedication to creating unique experiences for bourbon lovers. The project also signifies MWM's commitment to enabling their clients' visions and facilitating meaningful community development.
